Telegram Group Restructuring Proposal
New TG community (infra)structure: main group + opt-in subgroups + Drip channel.
Source: Notion proposal
Background & Opportunity Space
As the Scenius Telegram community has grown, so has the volume and variety of conversation, creating compounding issues:
- Information overload. Members who step away return to a wall of messages across wildly different topics: links, project updates, philosophical threads, logistics, and memes all tangled together.
- Low signal-to-noise. Some members want deep dives on tools and methodology. Others want community news and events. Everyone gets everything, so it feels noisy for most.
- No clear home for subgroup activity. Interest clusters form organically but lack dedicated space. Energy gets diffused or lost.
The Proposal
Principle: Simplify what everyone sees. Expand what people can opt into. Keep a synthesis layer so nothing important gets lost.
Part 1: Simplify the Main Supergroup
Reduce the main Telegram supergroup to core topics:
| Topic | Purpose |
|---|---|
| General Chat | Open conversation, relationship-building, community culture, new member onboarding |
| Links & Resources | Shared articles, tools, and references — no discussion required |
| Events & Bulletin Board | Zoom meetings, offline meetups, announcements, community logistics |
| Governance | Proposals, votes, and open discussions on Scenius stewardship |
| Sensemaking Drip | Synthesized digest of community activity (read-only rollup) across subgroups and sync meetings |
Everything else moves into subgroups. The main space becomes a calmer, more navigable home base.
Part 2: Opt-In Interest Subgroups
Members join 2-5 subgroups based on interests. Each subgroup:
- Is a separate Telegram group (not just a topic/thread)
- Has a volunteer steward for light facilitation
- Feeds into summarized digests for broader community awareness
Suggested subgroups: Scenius Builders, AI tools and workshops, Sensemaking-as-a-Service, Fundraising support, Events (own + external), Scenius Bildung, Psychedelics, Politics, Religion.
Subgroups can form organically — they don’t need to be perfect at launch. The lifecycle process (proposing to sunsetting) gets designed later.
Part 3: The Drip as Synthesis Layer
The Sensemaking Drip channel serves as connective tissue:
- Auto-generated summaries of activity across channels, subgroups, and sync meetings via scenius-digest
- Members stay up-to-date without reading every conversation
- Reduces FOMO for people who can’t follow everything in real time
- Non-members can learn from the community and apply to join
- Future integration with scenius.space and Bluesky
Desired outcome: subgroup depth doesn’t come at the cost of community coherence.
Privacy & Archiving Baseline
- Internal archiving: open — implicit consent when joining the community
- Public-facing content: private by default, de-identified, with an opt-in review period before publication (modeled on a 48-hour review window)
This protects members while enabling the community to build a meaningful knowledge commons over time.
Next Steps
- Share with community for broader buy-in and feedback
